Animals in crisis all over the world are receiving help from the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, including a chimpanzee sanctuary that has been affected by the Ebola breakout.
The fund has been helping conservation projects since 2003, and this year is donating just over $1 million to various projects, bringing their total donated amount to more than $11 million.
Projects helped by SeaWorld & Busch Gardens in 2014:
Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary – Special Crisis Grant
This sanctuary rehabilitates orphaned or abandoned chimps with the goal of releasing them back into their natural habitat. They have been issued a special “crisis grant” after losing vital funds due to a lack of tourism in Sierra Leone – a knock-on effect of the Ebola crisis.
Africa’s endangered species – Painted Dog Conservation
Painted dogs are among Africa’s most endangered species and are under severe threat from poaching.
Penguins in decline
A group called SANCCOB in South Africa works to save endangered African penguins, whose numbers are in rapid decline.
Critically endangered sea turtles
Ecology Project International (EPI) protects the world’s fourth most important nesting beach for critically endangered leatherback sea turtles in Costa Rica.
These are in addition to many more crucial projects which are striving to save wildlife all over the world.
The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund is a non-profit organization which supports wildlife research, habitat protection, animal rescue and conservation education in the U.S. It commits 100% of donations to on-the-ground wildlife conservation efforts.
