Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Florida is the perfect place to chill out when you’re ready for that much-needed break from the chaos of the parks. There’s still plenty to keep all ages entertained, but at a much more laid-back pace!
This place comes to life in the evening with on-street performers and live music, which makes the atmosphere amazing. Plus it’s just as fun in the day with activities to suit everyone! There’s a large array of famous themed restaurants from jungle-themed cafes for the kids to romantic candle-lit tables overlooking Lake Buena Vista.
Entering Downtown Disney!
The Restaurants
A lot of restaurants at Downtown Disney offer evening entertainment so be sure to do your research in order to suit your needs!
We sampled T-Rex Cafe (minus children) – a prehistoric interactive restaurant in which dinosaurs come to life. We were lucky enough to be seated in the ice-cave – which I’ve heard is a highly-requested seating area – and very few minutes there was a gentle transition of colour in the cave which gave us a unique dining experience!
T-Rex Cafes star attraction
The service and food here is fantastic; I sampled my first ever pulled pork burger and needless to say, I haven’t found a better tasting burger since (and I can assure you, Ive sampled a lot!)
If you’re looking for something lighter to eat, there are also plenty of smaller snack venues to grab a quick bite before you head back off into a world of fun!
The famous Loch Ness Monster
DisneyQuest
DisneyQuest is always high on peoples list when they visit Disney World. Its a 5-floor building full of interactive fun from old-skool arcade games to 3D rides and simulators that you can only ride once you’ve built your own rollercoaster be careful on how many loops you add to the track cos you’ll be the one riding it!
DisneyQuest is definitely a place for all the family to get involved, and it’s also a great place to take shelter and kill time in those occasional moments of rainfall. Don’t worry, there’s a cafe to chill out in when the flashing lights and arcade noises have driven the adults crazy! (Please note: there may be a fee to enter this building, but it is included with Disney tickets from FloridaTix).
The shops at Downtown Disney
What else can I do at Downtown Disney?
If you’ve got time on your hands why not take in a box-office hit at The Complex cinema? Even better – feast your eyes on some theatre action in a cinema-style setting whilst also indulging in a meal! Feeling a little active? Or competitive? Or both?? Grab your family and go bowling at Spiltsville! Take off in a balloon and float 400m in the air; be sure to have your cameras at the ready as you get a fantastic view of Downtown Disney! Unfortunately the winds were too high on my visit here so we didn’t get the opportunity to do this. Next time next time!…. There are so many photo opportunities too; stand next to the hand-made LEGO Disney characters, keep an eye out for the LEGO loch ness monster in the lake, and be sure to sit next to Pooh and friends on their bench they’ve saved you a seat!
Taking time out with Pooh, Tigger and Piglet!
I’d recommend spending an evening at Downtown where the entertainment is at it’s best. Overall, Downtown Disney is a fantastic place for that day of rest but where the action still keeps you entertained!
